Book Signing with Mike Link and Kate Crowley

  • Wildlife Science Center 5463 West Broadway Columbus, MN

The Wildlife Science Center is proud to announce a very special evening with Mike Link and Kate Crowley. Mike Link is the Founder and former Director of the Audubon Center of the Northwoods, and Kate is a life-long naturalist and educator.  Mike and Kate are the only husband/wife team to walk the entire circumference of Lake Superior in an effort to draw the world's attention to the issues facing fresh water.  On this evening, they will read from their newest book, "Meandering; Notes of a Mississippi Riverlorian". Mike and Kate traveled the length of the Mississippi up and back by foot, bike, car, and paddle wheel, gathering stories from folks along the way, and compiling their own observations. They artfully wove the stories and their own experiences into a delightful, informative read.

As a special treat, artist Alaika Warner will be unveiling her latest paintings, inspired by some of WSC's most charasmatic animals. Alaika created these paintings as part of her Senior Project at the School of Environmental Studies. This project allows students to work with something they're passionate about, and the only concrete requirement is that the project must leave a legacy behind it. On why she chose to work with WSC, Alaika says:

I chose to work with WSC for my senior project because I wanted to help with the Move the Pack project. I couldn't donate money, but I could donate my art. The legacy I wanted to help leave behind was the preservation of a very important organization. I've been going to the Wildlife Science Center for close to 10 years now. It is not only a fantastic educational opportunity, but also serves as a source of inspiration and is a boon of creativity. Art and nature have always been important to me, so I decided to combine these interests into my senior project.

Alaika's paintings can be viewed below.

Come and listen to excerpts from the book and bid on some stunning paintings, with wolf howls and a campfire as a backdrop. As a special perk, you will get a chance to see this year's wolf pups up close!

There is no charge for this exciting event! Space is limited, so please RSVP at wscinfo@wildlifesciencecenter.org
