Wildlife Science Center Wolf Cam Project

Overview
On Feb. 14, a rare Mexican Gray wolf was unlawfully released from the Wildlife Science Center in Forest Lake, MN after vandals broke into the research and education facility and let her and her two sisters out of there fenced enclosure. Her sisters were caught immediately, but the alpha female of the pack wasn't caught until four days later, just 10 feet from busy Interstate 694 in New Brighton.

The missing wolf was successfully recaptured in a coordinated effort by New Brighton Police and staff members of the Wildlife Science Center. The wolf most likely would not have survived had she not been found.  She was returned safely to the Center but her short absence from her pack upset the natural wolf pack hierarchy and she was rejected by her sisters. In order for this wolf to remain healthy and thrive, she has now been placed with another Mexican Gray Wolf within the Dakota Zoo in Bismarck, N.D.

Recognition
The need to protect and maintain the normal order of the wolf packs and not let them become even further endangered or a concern for public safety became readily apparent to Bob Jacobson, Director of Public Safety for the city of New Brighton.  Jacobson, along with New Brighton based business – Risdall Marketing Group, would like to recognize the combined effort to save this wolf and to help the Wildlife Science Center keep there wolves safe and secure.  Their plan is to dedicate a “Wolf Cam” in which the Center and the public can observe the wolves within the Center’s facilities.
